The Department of Chemistry is located in the H. C. Ørsted Institute, some 2 km NNW of the Copenhagen downtown area, next to the largest public park in Copenhagen (Fælledparken). The area also houses many of the other Science departments of the University of Copenhagen, as well as the School of Medicine (with the University Hospital). |

By Air
From the Copenhagen Airport (Kastrup) you can:
take a taxi directly to Universitetsparken 5 (approx. Dkr 150)
or
take the train to the Central Railway Station and then
proceed from there (see below).
By Train
From the Central Railway Station you can:
take any train from platforms 9 or 10 to Nørreport Station (2 stops).
From there you take any of bus lines 42 or 43 (toward Bagsværd
or Søborg), 173E (toward Kokkedal) or 184 (toward Holte Station).
Ask the driver to let you know when the bus reaches Universitetsparken.
Nørreport Station can also be reached directly from almost any S-TOG (subway) station.
By Car
If you arrive by car from outside Copenhagen, you should approach the city
through the northern suburbs, on Route 19. When the freeway ends, continue
straight through the first five lights, and you're there. The yellow-brick
buildings on your right are part of the H. C. Ørsted Institute.
If coming from within the city, use your map to locate Nørre Alle
(one of the main thoroughfares going N out of the city; Route 19).
Universitetsparken crosses Nørre Alle. If asking directions,
ask for Nørre Alle or Fælledparken or
Rigshospitalet (the University Hospital).
Note: in Denmark you must always have your lights on (night and day). Watch out for bicycles! Bicycle traffic can be heavy in Copenhagen.
A few tips on public transportation
You can buy your ticket from the driver on buses or at the S-TOG
stations (before entering the platform). Tickets last at least one hour
from the time they are stamped (don't forget to stamp your
ticket when entering the platform; it is valid only if stamped), and
you can change as many buses/S-TOGs
as you like. Tickets have different prices (and duration)
depending on the distance to your final destination.
Inside the city you will usually need a 2 zone ticket (12 Dkr).
Other information
At the Railway Station, Airport Information desk and Tourist offices
you can find Copenhagen This Week, a publication with useful
information about Copenhagen and what's happening in the city.
